Draft for review - details still to be confirmed with Southwark Libraries
{ } Peckham Code Club
Volunteer role

Help young people learn to code.

We're restarting the free Code Club at Peckham Library and need friendly helpers. One hour on a Wednesday, as often as suits you.

At a glance

  • Wednesdays, 4:45 to 6:15pm, term time
  • Weekly, fortnightly or monthly rota
  • Peckham Library, SE15
  • Children aged 8 to 17

What you'll do

  • Help children with their projects, from their first Scratch game to Python and web pages
  • Help them get unstuck, and celebrate when things work
  • Help set up the laptops before the session and pack away after

Who we're looking for

  • You don't need to be an expert coder. Being curious, patient and happy to learn alongside the children matters more.
  • You enjoy working with young people, or would like to try
  • You can make Wednesday late afternoons, weekly, fortnightly or monthly
  • You're 18 or over

What you'll get

  • A library induction and a free DBS check, arranged by Southwark Libraries
  • Free Code Club training from the Raspberry Pi Foundation, including a 30-minute online safeguarding course that all helpers complete before starting
  • A friendly team, and the fun of watching someone build their first game
