What you'll make

Start with Scratch: drag blocks together to make characters move, jump and score points.
Python
Write real code. Build a guessing game, a quiz or a chatbot that talks back.
Websites
Use HTML and CSS to make your own web page about anything you love.
Your own ideas
Got something in your head? Animation, music, art, an app? We'll help you build it.
How it works
Book a place
Places are limited, so book ahead. It's free.
Come to the library
Arrive just before 5pm and wait in the library. We'll bring everyone up to the club room together.
Code for an hour
Work on a project at your own pace, on your own or with a partner, with helpers on hand.
Show what you made
We finish by sharing what we've built. Parents and carers collect at 6pm.
Questions
Do I need to know how to code?
Not at all. Most people start with Scratch, and we'll show you everything. If you already code, you can go further with Python or web pages.
Do I need to bring a laptop?
No. The library has laptops for the club. You're welcome to bring your own if you prefer.
Who can come?
Anyone aged 8 to 17. Children need to be at least 8, as that's the library's minimum age to be in the library without an adult.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. The club is free.
Who runs it?
The club is led by a Peckham local who ran a Southwark tech company for over 15 years, with a team of volunteer helpers. All volunteers are DBS-checked, and library staff are always close by.
What about AI?
AI can help you write code, but you need to understand code to stay in charge of it. We start with the basics, so you know how things really work.
Want to join? Book a place.
Email Southwark Libraries at libraries@southwark.gov.uk to book, or ask at Peckham Library. Places are free but limited.
Grown-ups: love coding, or just good with young people? We're looking for volunteer helpers. Find out more.
